The Importance of Accreditation
One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a college or university, accreditation affirms that an independent organization has evaluated an institution or academic program and confirmed that it meets established standards for quality, effectiveness, and continuous improvement.

Institutional Accreditation
Wilmington University is institutionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). Accreditation by MSCHE signifies that the University has demonstrated excellence in areas including academic quality, student learning, institutional effectiveness, financial stability, governance, and continuous improvement.
Why It Matters:
Institutional accreditation means students can be confident their degree is backed by rigorous academic standards and ongoing evaluation by both the institution itself and third-party experts. Accreditation also gives employers confidence that Wilmington University graduates have completed programs that meet established standards for academic quality and continuous improvement.
Wilmington University is an accredited institution and a member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). Wilmington University’s accreditation status is accreditation reaffirmed. The Commission’s most recent action on the institution’s accreditation status on March 2024, was to reaffirm accreditation status. MSCHE is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to conduct accreditation and pre-accreditation (accreditation reaffirmed) activities for institutions of higher education including distance, correspondence education, and direct assessment programs offered at those institutions. The Commission’s geographic area of accrediting activities is throughout the United States.

Specialized Program Accreditation
Many professions require academic programs to meet discipline-specific standards beyond institutional accreditation. Wilmington University's specialized accreditations demonstrate that experts in their respective fields have evaluated these programs.

College of Business and Technology (Business Programs) Accreditation
Our business programs are accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE), reflecting a commitment to applied learning and continuous improvement.
College of Education and Liberal Arts Accreditation
Our education programs are accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Educator Preparation (CAEP), demonstrating that WilmU’s educator preparation programs meet rigorous, evidence-based standards.
College of Nursing and Health Sciences Accreditation
Our nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In addition, the Delaware Nurse Anesthesiology Program (DNAP) is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA).
College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Accreditation
The M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The Legal Studies concentration of the B.S. in Law, Policy and Political Science and WilmU’s Post-Bachelor's Paralegal Certificate are approved by the American Bar Association (ABA).
Wilmington University Farnan School of Law Accreditation
Farnan School of Law is provisionally approved by the Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar of the American Bar Association, 321 North Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60654, (312) 988-6738.
