New Faculty Orientation

Orientation and training is required for all new instructors at Wilmington University. The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), Online Learning, and Educational Technology Department at Wilmington University offer training for instructors who wish to teach at Wilmington University.

All faculty candidates who apply to teach at WilmU will receive a Wilmington University email address and login account from CTE. This account allows candidates to register for New Faculty Orientation Part 1. Candidates will follow the information received in the email from CTE to register for their first training.

Once registered for New Faculty Orientation Part 1 event, candidates will then login to MyWilmU, our faculty portal, using your WilmU login credentials and click into Canvas, our Learning Management System. New Faculty Orientation Part 1 training is located on the user's Canvas Dashboard.

The instructor-led New Faculty Orientation Part 1 event is offered each block. The course is self-paced, and the average time to complete the training is 3-5 hours total. Modules include readings, completing activities in a Canvas course as a student, and completing activities in a Workspace course as an instructor.

After faculty candidates are assigned a course, they will register for New Faculty Orientation Part 2. Part 2 is the Onboarding course sharing policies, forms and information related to employment at Wilmington University.

Hardware Requirements

Faculty members taking New Faculty Orientation training will need a headset microphone or internal laptop speakers to complete a week one activity. We recommend the Logitech H390 headset which can be purchased at Staples or Amazon.

To Enroll in New Faculty Orientation Part 1

  1. Participants must have WilmU login credentials emailed to them from the Center for Teaching Excellence to register.
  2. Login to using WilmU credentials to the WilmU Learning Center to register.
  3. Register by the deadline date listed below for each course.
  4. Participants must complete the course by specified end date.
