Internships
Internship is paid, unpaid or stipend-only opportunity for an undergraduate student to function in a typical "on-the-job" environment. Students can earn credit (free elective) towards their degree and these experiences provide first-hand practices upon which future career choices can be based. Students gain a better understanding of the relationship between theoretical concepts and their practical application through internships. It’s true nature is to give students career exposure.
Internships at a Glance
- Credit towards your degree (Free Elective)
- 3 Credits in one 15-week semester
- Career Exposure
- Approximately 6 to 8 hours per week, totaling 90-120 hours
- 2.5 GPA, minimum 60 credits
- Evaluation is graded satisfactory/unsatisfactory
Note: Students are not able to accept opportunities with home-based business/organizations.
Getting Started
Step 1
Log in to Handshake to explore positions. You‘ll need to create a Handshake account, create a resume or upload an existing resume. Contact the prospective companies and agencies of your choice to determine position availability.
NOTE – you do not need to find an internship position through Handshake. Students can find positions through various other resources (i.e. internships.com, internet search, networking etc..)
If you already have a position that has been offered to you please continue to step 2.
Step 2
Once offered a position fill out the form to receive approval or Schedule an Appointment with a Work-Integrated Learning Specialist through Handshake or contact them below:

A: Internships are typically unpaid or stipend-only but provide invaluable real-world work experience and opportunities to network with professionals in your chosen field. Paid internships are rare.
A: Once your internship position is confirmed through the Office of Work-Integrated Learning you will be approved to register for an internship. Once you have received notification of your approval you must register and pay for your 3 credit course.
A: It is the responsibility of the student to secure an internship at a company in a position that is pertinent to your major. See steps 1 and 2 above.
