Becoming an Internship or Co-Op Employer
Help WilmU students experience the benefits of learning in a professional business environment.
What Are the Employer’s Responsibilities?
- Identify the student's faculty supervisor (Academic Program Chair) through the student, and notify them of your hiring decision.
- Host the students’ faculty supervisor(s) for a site visit.
- Contact the faculty supervisor if any concerns arise during the semester.
- Complete the Employer Evaluation Form, which will be provided to you by the student during the final third of the semester.
- International students are valuable contributors in many workplaces. See Hiring International Students for Internships and Co-Ops for additional information.
When Can Students Work?
Student work cycles align with the University’s academic semesters and typically last approximately 15 weeks:
- Fall Semester: September to December
- Spring Semester: January to April
- Summer Semester: May to August
Students may complete:
- 6-8 hours per week for internships (approximately 15 weeks), or
- 10-15 hours per week for co-op experiences, (typically spanning two semesters, or approximately 30 weeks).
Post a Position for an Internship or Co-Op
Employers may post opportunities through the University’s designated recruiting platform or coordinate directly with students and Academic Program Chairs.
Home-based businesses or organizations are not eligible to host internship or co-op experiences.
