Teacher Education Programs
Wilmington University offers initial teacher preparation programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. These programs are approved by the State of Delaware and the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) and lead to licensure upon completion. The undergraduate program began in 1990 and has undergone significant changes to meet new state certification guidelines. The undergraduate teacher preparation program leads to a teaching certificate in Early Care and Education (Birth to 2), Elementary Education (K-6), and/or Middle Level Education (6-8). The first graduate program began in 1992 and was also changed significantly in 2005 to meet new state certification guidelines. This program leads to a certificate in Elementary Education (K-6). A second graduate program was added in 2005 which leads to a certificate in Secondary Education (9-12). Both graduate teacher preparation programs are designed for students who hold bachelors degrees in other areas and both require a full semester of student teaching.
