State Authorization

Find out about Wilmington University’s authorization to offer education services throughout the United States.

State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement

National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements LogoNational Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) worked with various states to develop the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). SARA allows participating colleges and universities to provide online courses and conduct certain activities outside of their home state without having to seek approval from state higher education regulatory entities. Forty-nine states and Washington, D.C., have joined SARA. California has not. For more information, visit  NC-SARA's website.

To become a member of SARA, the regional education board or compact and home state of an institution must approve participation in SARA. Delaware is an approved SARA state.  Wilmington University has been approved by Delaware to participate in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements.  NC-SARA is a voluntary, regional approach to state oversight of postsecondary distance education.

Wilmington University is committed to operating in compliance with all state regulations for its online learning programs as well as any out-of-state field experiences. At the Wilmington University, Online Learning programs include:

  • 100% online programs
  • Field experiences taking place outside Delaware
  • Programs leading to professional licensure in another state

To comply with United States Department of Education regulations, please view the Distance Education Complaint Process for issues that cannot be resolved by Wilmington University.

Licensure

Professional licensure and certification requirements often vary from state to state. Some academic programs lead to occupations that require licensure or certification by state. This varies by state, requiring separate approval with the appropriate state licensing and certification entities. For academic programs where this applies, more specific information is provided about licensure/certification on the individual program’s webpage.

In accordance with federal requirements and as a State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) participating institution, Wilmington University provides public and direct professional licensure and certification disclosure statements. For more information, please see State Licensures by Program for programs that the University has identified as leading to a license or certification, or advertising as such.
